Wow! Did you find out anything?

Was this around the North Boulder Park at Wonderland Lake? If so what you probably saw was a Paraglider (Skydivers are usually around an established Drop-Zone). I have been paragliding for around 5 years and know almost everyone up at North Boulder and I have not heard about any accidents but you have me concerned. I'll start making some phone calls. Where exactly did you see this?

I called the skydiving operation and they said it was a 'routine emergency'. Happens about every 500 jumps - the main parachute did not open and was jettisoned. Fortunately, the spare did, so no injuries!

I live within sight of the paraglider launch at Wonderland Lake, so I'm pretty familiar with paraglider's. I flew one solo mountain flight myself about 15 years ago...

Sorry about the false alarm.

Thanks for clearing this up, Eric. I question the "...Happens about every 500 jumps..." I jumped for a number of years, both military and sport, and never saw anyone have to cut away a main canopy. I'd want to know who packed that chute and send him/her back for retraining.
