Hello members. I'm sorry we seem to be a dead group. Photography is kind of a solo endeavor anyway. We started a group on flickr called, "Shoot a word". Each month, we'll post one word and it's merriam-webster definition. Then your task is to find t…

Ha, yes, the rule of thirds - one of the few "rules" I know. Thanks for the compliment, btw. I have a wide angle lense for my old camera, a Sony Mavica. I stopped using it because it only has 3.3 MP and is a bit heavy. Maybe I should practice with it tho. What brand of DSLR do you recommend?

Hi James, thanks for the offer of advice! I haven't had any photography training. :-( My current camera is a Canon PowerShot A620 - lame, but it does have some manual features. I've resisted getting an SLR because I'm afraid I wouldn't use it manually. I like to photograph outdoors, some nature shots and also architecture, boats, etc. No portraits. I'm usually not shooting in ideal lighting conditions, so light is a factor. What do you think? :-)
